Small to midsize pyrite specimens from Spain. This region is particularly well known for crystalline pyrite specimens with naturally occurring cube and dodecahedron(pyritohedron) shapes.
- Large Two Cube Specimen: 1.5 - 1.8in (~4cm)
- Large Three+ Cube Specimen: 1.5 - 2in (3.8 - 5cm)
- Small Cube Specimen: 0.75in (~2cm)
- Small Pyritohedron: 1in (~2.5cm)
The images are illustrative of the different styles. As each specimen is unique, the one you receive will differ from the photograph.
Origin: Navajún, La Rioja, Spain
Science/History: Chemically FeS2, Pyrite is known for its geometric crystallization. Coming from the Greek word pyrites lithos ("stone which strikes fire"), Pyrite is known to spark against steel making it useful in early firearms. It is common source of sulfur, often used in chemical production and still used in paper manufacturing.
Metaphysical: Pyrite is said to help shield against negativity and help instill a positive outlook. It can help with establishing a "can-do" attitude, providing the courage to help one remove negative influences from one's environment.
