A wonderful exhibition of lead minerals, these Pyromorphite specimens have a bright apple green color with great crystal structure. While Pyromorphite is commonly found as coating in lead oxide layers, the barrel-like crystals are less common and quite collectible. Some of the most noteworthy locations for specimens are Mexico, Morocco, Idaho, and China for new bright-green deposits. We only have a few specimens available at the moment from recent Chinese finds.
Pyromorphite gets its name from the Greek words "pyr "(fire) and "morfe" (form) due to a unique property where melting it down and cooling causes new crystallization rather than decomposition. This attribute is a point of scientific research as it may help us learn how to capture lead in a more stable structure and reduce contamination.
